Vineyards Abroad

The pioneer spirit

The Taittinger family has always shown its pioneering spirit. From its starting point in Champagne, its creation of the Champagne House’s unique style and its expansion overseas right through to its showcasing of contemporary art and fine cuisine. It is this same spirit which led Taittinger to create “Domaine Carneros” in the heart of the Napa Vallley, California in the 1980s. It produces a sparkling wine by using the same method of blending Pinot Noir and Chardonnay as is done in Champagne. It is now enjoyed across the whole of the United States. More recently, in 2015 Taittinger became the first champagne house to create a vineyard in the United Kingdom. It has planted 30 hectares of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier in Kent, South-east England. The first bottles of sparkling wine are eagerly anticipated to be ready in time for 2024.

Carneros

Californian Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

Since 1987, and in partnership with his American dealer, Claude Taittinger has invested in a vast wine estate located 70 kilometres north of San Francisco at the mouth of the famous Napa Valley in California. This is known as the Domaine Carneros.

Claude Taittinger considered the red wine ‘Famous Gate’, made from the Pinot Noir vines growing on this sun-drenched land, as one of the greatest wines of the 21st century… Today, the vineyards in Domaine Carneros extend over 140 hectares, 90 of which are given over to Pinot Noir and 50 to Chardonnay. Domaine Carneros produces a sparkling wine which is lightly and delicately aromatic. It is made in the traditional Champagne way, respecting tradition and the skills and knowledge of Taittinger.

Domaine Evremond

English bubbles

In October 2015, Taittinger bought around 70 hectares of land in Kent together with British wine distributer, Hatch Mansfield.

It was both an opportunity for expansion and the result of a long friendship between Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger and Patrick McGrath, the manager of Hatch Mansfield. 30 hectares of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier had already been planted by May 2017 in the heart of the d. This area is set to double in size in just a few years. With an expected release date of 2024, everyone at Taittinger is looking forward to seeing how the first of this wine will fair against its French and American counterparts. Taittinger is the first Champagne House to create a vineyard in the United Kingdom in a region where the chalk sub-soil is made up of the same geological structure as the famous ‘Côte des Blancs’ in Champagne. Domaine St-Evremond is located one hour from London and is named after a 17th century French writer. He was one of the founding fathers of the ‘Ordre des Côteaux de Champagne’ who were forced to live in exile in England for a while in order to escape the royal prisons of Louis XIV...
